JKD Logo Jeet Kune Do - The Original Mixed Martial Art

"JKD" is the art and philosophy of Bruce Lee as well as his personal "blueprint" for combat, emphasizing the need to be proficient in all ranges of combat. Consequently, the student is taught to "absorb what is useful" in his/her training, drawing from many arts such as western boxing, thai boxing, judo, jiu-jitsu, kali and wing chun to name but a few in their quest to "flow" from range to range. Students of JKD are taught to be open-minded in their training as no one style or system possesses all of the answers...

For those not familiar with "Jeet Kune Do", or JKD, it is Bruce Lee's personal expression of not only martial art and combat, but also a vehicle for growth in all areas of life. JKD "essentials" starts with a discerning, questioning, rational mind, and the desire to research, investigate and go beyond assumptions, whether in martial art or any endeavor in life.

The JKD practioner strives to be openminded, with no limitations or prejudices with regard to styles, nationalities, traditions or methods. To those who understand the JKD philosophy, it represents an exciting journey of self-discovery and self-expression.

TBA Logo Muay Thai (Thai Boxing)

Commonly referred to as "The Science of Eight LImbs", Muay Thai - Thai Boxing is the devastating fighting art of Thailand. Employing kicking, punching, elbow and knee strikes it is at once a highly effective ring sport as well as an evolved method of self defense. Additionally, it is an excellent means of developing strength, toning muscles, managing weight and a tremendous cardiovascular workout!

Maphalindo Logo Maphilindo Silat (Inosanto Method)

Guro Dan Inosanto, to honour his Silat instructors, founded Maphilindo Silat, basing it on the various systems of Silat he has studied under Silat masters from Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia, including Herman Suwanda and Edgar Sulite.

The "Ma" comes from the Malaysian influence found in Maphilindo Silat. The "Phil" is, from the Philipino influence and finally, the "Indo" derives from its Indonesian influences.

Maphilindo Silat is essentially a counter fighting style and incorporates empty-hand techniques along with the use of such weapons as the short stick and sarong. The general idea is to manipulate and destruct a part, parts, or the whole of an opponent's body in a minimal period of time. This goal is achieved by a flow of techniques and movement through the phases of entering, takedown and finishing. The emphasis here is on the concept of flow, which is the smooth transition through a series of movements or techniques.

The range of techniques used in Maphilindo Silat, and in the traditional / foundational styles, is not extensive and the major striking techniques include Finger Thrusts, Guntings, Elbows, Knees and Headbutts, along with manipulative techniques such as Arm Pulls, Head Pulls, Head Turns, Leg Sweeps, Knee Compressions, Arm Breaks, Elbow Levers and Chokes.
